My Lovely Day

I was riding in my car, it was such a lovely day
And the beauty of the country nearly took my breath away
When suddenly someone in a Ford Capri coupé
Cut me up and made a gesture that spoiled my lovely day.

I was selling double-glazing, couldn’t give the stuff away
It was not much of a job, but I had bills to pay
So I knocked upon the door of a bungalow chalet
But they sent their dogs to bite me, and spoil my lovely day.

Why would anyone want to spoil my lovely day?
Why would anyone want to spoil my lovely day?

I went to see the dentist, but I knew what he would say
“Do you eat a lot of sweets? You’ve got chronic tooth decay.
You need several extractions, I must act without delay.”
And he filled my mouth with metal, and spoiled my lovely day.

People are getting me down just lately,
Why should they want to huniliate me?
Where’s the fun in putting somebody else down?
People are starting to irritate me
Hooting at me ‘cos I drive sedately
Why do they want to change my smile to a frown?

I put on a lovely concert, I got all my friends to play
I wrote a load of music, got an audience to pay
We had a lovely evening, everything was going my way
But the critics really panned it, and spoiled my lovely day.

Everyone can’t be dumb innately
So how come they infuriate me?
Knowing I’m the most patient person in town
I’ve got to get myself a lawyer
Or maybe a specialist in paranoia
Maybe they can stop this world getting me down.

I was riding in my car, it was such a lovely day
And the beauty of the country nearly took my breath away
When suddenly some jerk in a Ford Capri coupé
Cut me up and made a gesture that spoiled my lovely day.
